| John Stalker was a policeman on the beat in Manchester before transferring to the CID where he worked for 16 years, rising to the rank of Detective Superintendent. He was in the Serious Crime Squad, the Bomb Squad and was the first head of the Drugs Squad. | |
| In 1978, he was appointed head of Warwickshire CID - at 38, the youngest Detective Chief Superintendent in the country - later becoming Deputy Chief Constable of the Greater Manchester Police, the biggest police force in the provinces with over 10,000 staff and a population of almost three million. He has travelled round the world studying terrorism and crime in Europe, the USA and South America.On his return he worked for 2 years in Northern Ireland. | |
| He now writes regularly for several newspapers including the Sunday Times, Daily & Sunday Express, the Daily Telegraph and writes frequent crime features for The Sun. | |
| His book STALKER topped the best sellers for many weeks with world-wide sales of over 400,000, later returning to the best sellers list in paperback. | |
| In the spring of 1993, he presented a new 13 part TV series "Crimestalker" for Central Television. The 2nd series began in 1994 and ran for the full year. | |
| He regularly presents seminars, motivational presentations, conferences and product launches for large companies and is a popular after dinner speaker. He still fits in trips to America, Australia & South Africa discussing policing in Britain. | |
| John Stalker is also a qualified athletics coach, a keen football fan and an accomplished jazz drummer. He lives with his wife on a small farm in Cheshire and is busy preparing his next book. | |
