  Charles Devenish (Charlie) Lawson (born September 17, 1959 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland) is a television actor perhaps best known for playing the character Jim McDonald in the ITV soap Coronation St. which he played  from 1989 to 2000 and then for brief stints in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Most recently he again reprised the role in late 2007-early 2008 when Jim was released from jail.  
  In addition to his Coronation Street role, Charles Lawson has also appeared in the 1988 television film The Firm and in many other television series, such as Doctors, Bread, The Bill , Harry’s Game and Rosemary and Thyme.  
  Charlie was educated at Campbell College in Belfast, and intended to join the Royal Navy after completing his schooling however he where he developed a love of acting and a teacher at the school persudaded him to train at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama..He has worked with many theatre companies: The National Theatre, , English Theatre Company, the Hull Truck Company and Royal Shakespeare Company where he played HenryVlll, Comedy of Errors and Romeo & Juliet
